The thermal conductivity and surface emissivity of a materialmay be determined by heating its bottom surface and exposing itstop surface to quiescent air and large surroundings of equivalenttemperatures, T∞=Tsur= 25°C. The remaining surfaces of the sampleand heater are well insulated. Consider a sample of thickness L =21 mm and a square planform of width W = 225 mm. In an experimentperformed under steady-state conditions, temperature measurementsmade at the lower and upper surface of the sample yield values ofT1 = 160°C and T2 = 80°C, respectively, for a power input of Pelec= 33 W. (See the figure in the book for configuration details.)
