1. For the following processes you are to discuss the structure and properties of the materials before the process, the structure and properties of the material during the process and finally the structure and properties of the material after the process is complete. Comment on the changes and relate them to the process. a. Consider the cold rolling of an aluminium sheet. A sheet of aluminium is rolled through sets of rollers with successively smaller gaps between them until the desired thickness is obtained. You are to describe how the properties and behaviour of the aluminium is affected by the process. b. Consider the injection moulding process for a polymer. The polymers fed into the process and injected into the mould where it solidifies in the mould taking on the desired shape. You are to describe how the process and behaviour of the polymer is affected by the process. c. Consider a ceramic sintering process. Powdered material is pressed into a mould where is subjected to pressure and heat where it forms a solid material of the appropriate shape. You are to describe how the process and behaviour of the ceramic is affected by the process. d. Consider a hand layup manufacturing process for a CRP composite. The sheet CRP sheet material is laid into the mould and the epoxy resin rolled onto the CRP material. The material is then cure to complete the process. You are to describe how the process and behaviour of the ceramic is affected by the process.
