A printed circuit board (PCB) etching system has been built, thebasic structure of which is sketched below. The system is to becontrolled by a PLC.
water in water drain heater PCBs |||| etch drain MM Air pump Etching fluid pump The system consists of two tanks. The upper tank is where the PCB's are etched and the lower tank is a reservoir to store the etching fluid. The upper tank includes an aeration system, to agitate the etching fluid, supplied by a small air pump. The tank also has an electrically controlled valve to allow rinse water to enter the tank and it has two drain valves, one to allow etching fluid return to the lower tank and the other to allow rinse water to drain away. The system is to operate as follows. When a start button is pressed the etching fluid is to be heated in the lower reservoir until it reaches a temperature of 60 degrees. The hot etching fluid will then be pumped into the upper tank. The air pump will then start to agitate the fluid. The etching process will run for ten minutes, after which the etching fluid will drain back into the lower reservoir. The upper tank will be filled with water to rinse the PCBs. The air pump will run again during the rinse period. After three minutes the rinse water will drain away. An indicator light should illuminate to show that the process is complete. 1. Define symbols of IO and FB showing all sensors, actuators, indicators, switches and timers that will be required to allow this system to be controlled by a PicoSoft PLC 2. On the paper, draw a state diagram which will satisfy the system behaviour specified above. 3. Choose a Pico Controller in PicoSoft and write the ladder diagram.
