QUESTION 4 (20 MARKS) Case Study 2: Jennifer seeks aid from her parents after getting a chain of sexually graphic emails and instant messages. The messages' content implies that the sender acknowledges Jennifer's institution, her acquaintance group, and other personal details. The sender's identity is unrevealed in the email. Her father conducts internet research because he is concerned that the sender may be using personally identifiable information available on the Internet about Jennifer. He comes across comments on sexual websites hosted overseas that reference Jennifer's name. However, Jennifer and her parents are hesitant to report the incident because they believe police have insufficient resources to investigate crimes associated with the Internet and technology. Jennifer is also embarrassed by the substance of the postings, and she thinks the incident is unlikely to call for a police investigation. A week later, Jennifer received a call from an unknown number expressing interest in engaging in sexual fantasy. Before disconnecting, the caller claimed to be replying to an online message. Jennifer decides to inform her parents about the call. She shows her parents a letter she found on an online bulletin board that included her name, phone number, and a message in which she expressed her desire to be raped. Following that, Jennifer receives an email having threats to harm her. There are photos of her home and shots of her catching up with friends for coffee at university are attached to the message. Due to that, Jennifer and her parents report the incident to the local police. Upon receiving the report, the local police refer the matter to you as the specialist e-Crime Unit. As a specialist, you have been responsible to further analyse the potential evidence from Jennifer's computer and handheld devices to help on finding the offender. Discuss your analysis in detail to investigate the offender of the case. Your discussion should include the following: a) Hypothesis of the case. (IM) b) Any TWO (2) sources of evidence that related to the case. (2M) c) Objectives of analysing your selected sources of evidence. (2M) d) Steps for analysing your first evidence.
