EXERCISE 3: CROSS-SECTIONS OF DIPPING STRATA; TRUE AND APPARENT DIP The strata shown in this map dip at 30° to the east. The ground surface is horizontal at 450 m elevation. 1) Draw the geological cross section A-B using the section provided. 2) Draw a legend placing the oldest rocks at the base and the youngest at the top. 3) Complete another cross-sections C-D. Note how the apparent dip (that is, the dip that you use for your cross section) changes with differing direction angles.
