Now imagine the student sitting on the chair, feet off the ground, and holding the extinguisher as shown in figures (a) and (b). Assume a rotating chair with wheels and neglect friction (you are welcome to conduct this experiment yourself and upload a video that shows this effect or something similar but please be careful because chairs can tip over. Be creative and think of an analogue experiment). 1. Explain how the chair moves in cases (a) and (b). 2. Explain whether (linear) momentum is conserved for (a) and (b). 3. Explain whether angular momentum is conserved in either case. 4. If there were no air in the room, would the chair move differently? 5. To propel the chair, some energy had to be transferred.
