In the following experiment magnesium metal was placed in 4 test tubes. Varying concentrations of hydrochloric acid were added to each test tube. Over the course of a minute the following observations were recorded; test tube 1 with 3.0 MHCI produced vigorous bubbles, test tube 2 with 0.010 M HCI produced a small amount of bubbles, test tube 3 with 1.0 MHCI gave a fast stream of bubbles, and lastly, test tube 4 with 0.10 MHCI produced a slow stream of bubbles. How does changing the hydrochloric acid concentration affects the reaction rate with magnesium metal? As the concentration of hydrochloric acid increases, the rate of reaction decreases. As the concentration of hydrochloric acid increases, the rate of reaction is not affected. As the concentration of hydrochloric acid increases, the rate of reaction increases.
