It has been decided to design the mat footing, also shown in Figure 1, to support the above columns. The other geometrical information is shown below: Center to center spacing of columns = 3 m Distance from the edges of the footing to the centers of the corresponding peripheral columns = 0.5m Depth of the footing in the ground = 1.1 m Mean SPT 55 of the foundation soil = (20+0.25Y) (a) Check whether this footing size is adequate (08 points).
