Q1. 25%. Figure Q1 shows a side elevation view of a curved lock gate of width B=5m into the paper. The lock gate holds back water of depth D. The gate pivots about a hinge at (x,y)=(0,0) and is restrained by a vertical force F acting at a distance Xp from the hinge. The shape of the gate is given by x=y/A, where A is a constant and A=4m. Neglect the self-weight of the gate.
