Problem #2 (50 point): The shaft shown below has to be designed using relative sizes d =0.85D and r=0.05D. The cold-drawn steel shaft has an ultimate strength of 1350 MPa, yield strength of 1200 MPa and Brinell hardness of 385. The shaft is subjected to a completely reversed bending moment of 110 N.m, and a steady torsion of 70 N.m. Find the shaft diameter for an indefinite life using DE-Goodman failure criteria, and design safety factor of 2.2. For the first trial, use shaft diameter dr = 20 mm, K -1.98 and Ko - 1.49. Show all calculations.
