12. A beam of uniform section, I = 185 x 10-8 m, span 6 m, is fixed hori- zontally at each end. It carries & point load of 120 kN at 3.6 m from one end. Neglecting the weight of the beam itself, find (a) the fixing moments, proving any formula or rule you use; (b) the reactions; (c) the position and magnitude of the maximum deflection. Check the determination of the fixing moments by any method alternative to that already employed. E = 200 GN/m2 (U. Lond.) (Ans.: 69.12 kN m; 103.68 kN m; 42.25 kN; 77.8 kN; 3-35 mm at 0.275 m from mid-span)
