EXERCISE #1 In a Joule-Brayton real cycle, air is compressed from ambient pressure (1bar) and ambient temperature (300 K) to 8 bar, in a two-stage compressor with intercooling between the stages. The intermediate pressure (intercooler pressure) must be calculated taking into account that the two-compression stages have the same compression ratio. The air is cooled back to 300 K in the intercooler before entering the second stage of compression. The maximum temperature of the cycle is 1400 K. Assume an isentropic efficiency for the two compressors of 0.8 (Nis-comp), and turbine of 0.9 (Nis-turb). Represent the real cycle on a T-s diagram and then using the air-standard assumptions calculate (for the real cycle): the air temperature at the exits of each compressor stage; the gas temperature at the turbine exit; the thermodynamics efficiency; the net technical work; the net power if the air mass flow rate is 1 kg.s!. . . . .
