Laser cavity FSR and gain bandwidth a. A gas laser has a 50 cm cavity length- what is the free spectral range FSR ? (assuming the refractive index of the cavity is n = 1) b. If the gain bandwidth of the laser in part a is 1.5 GHz, would the laser be single mode? If not, up to how many longitudinal modes might it have? c. What cavity length would ensure single mode operation? What is the downside of this in terms of gain?
