1. Amanufacturing company has a rate schedule with the following clauses: Basic charge: $50/month Energy charge: for the first 100 kWh per kW of billing demand $0.07 per kWh for the first 3000 kWh $0.06 per kWh for the next 9000 kWh $0.05 per kWh for all over 10000 kWh for all kWh over 100 kWh per kW billing demand per month $0.04/kWh Demand charge $12.5/kW Ratchet clause: The Billing Demand upon which the demand charge is based shall be the Maximum Demand as determined above corrected for the power factor, as set forth under the Power Factor Clause, provided that no billing demand shall be considered as less than 65% of the highest billing demand in previous 11 months. Power factor clause: The consumer shall at all times take and use power in such manner that the power factor shall be as nearly 100% as possible, but when the average power factor as determined by continuous measurement of lagging reactive kilovoltampere hours is less than 80%, the Billing Demand shall be determined by multiplying the Maximum Demand, shown by the demand meter for the billing period, by 80 and dividing the product thus obtained by the actual average power factor expressed in percent. Based on the above rate schedule, calculate the bill of current month with the following information: • Metered demand in current month: 250 kW • The highest billed demand in previous 11 months: 500 kW Energy consumption: 50,000 kWh Power factor: 75% Sales tax: 6% .
