1. A nurse interprets the following ABG values as
indicating:
pH 7.27
CO2: 40
HCO3: 18
When I drew it out using the square technique I landed on
metabolic acidosis because the pH and HCO3 are both alkalosis
(compensation is not considered in this question)
2. A nurse is caring for a patient connected to continuous GI
suctioning who begins to develop AMS, and new dysrhythmia. Which is
the acid/base imbalance?
- metabolic acidosis
-respiratory alkalosis
- metabolic alkalosis
-respiratory acidosis
3. A patient with a lower resp. infection has a pH 7.25, CO2 of
50, and HCO3 of 22. What is the priority intervention?
- check the color of the patient's urine output
- encourage the patient to increase respirations
- have the patient breathe into a paper bag (what I think it
is)
- place the patient in Trendelenburg
