Three years ago John, was obese and elected for gastric surgery that bypassed much of his stomach. He also read the internet and decided on a strict vegetarian'diet and regular exercise. He did well and soon stopped medical follow up care. During the next 36 months he reduced his BMI from 36 to 23. However lately he has become increasingly short of breath during regular light exercise. He feels fatigued during simple daily activities regardless of sleeping well at night. Some standard lab work indicates a normal glucose, electrolytes, iron and a hematocrit of 34. The mean corpuscular volume is high. Predict what is most likely wrong. Vitamin Deficiency Anemia.
