Mr. G, age 45 with no significant medical history, presents to
the ED with complaints of chest pain and syncope. His blood
pressure is 90/50 mmHg and his heart rate is 110 beats per minute.
He has noted jugular vein distension and bilateral pedal edema. He
is transferred to the ICU, and his heart rhythm is noted to be
sinus tachycardia with some premature ventricular contractions.
1. What condition might be suspected?
2. Is he demonstrating signs of shock?
3. If so, what type?
