This report will be written as a lab report, abstract, data,
results and references. You will find images from the
internet for data (visual). Remember to give credit and
remember to reference images properly.
TLC and column chromatography have many aspects on common such
as the mobile phase, stationary phase, and the interaction of the
compounds with both along the column. Include in the abstract
the differences between TLC and CC.
This report will require an abstract and it will require
references.
The compounds you are separating are;
Cholesterol/cholesterol acetate on a silica gel the solvent is
ligroin:ether 9:1
Do not forget to find out if cholesterol and cholesterol acetate
are colored compounds if not how will you visualize the separation
of the products?
1. Results discuss the movement of these compounds in
the solvent and through the column with respect to polarity of
column and solvent
explain which one is more polar, which
is less polar, what colors they are, draw
rhe structures of cholesterol and
cholesterol acetate, explain what is
silica gel, define ligroin and ether (ror)
what is getting dissolved and what is
moving faster
