A male worker is 46 years old and weighs 185 lb. He sleeps 6
hours each night during which time his average energy expenditure
rate is assumed to be at the basal metabolic rate. He works 8 hours
a day and his work activities consist of the following: 10% walking
(1.9 miles/hr), 30% light assembly work while seated, 20% carrying
assembled work which weighs 8kg to second floor using stairs, 10%
cleaning the shop windows and 30% filling paper work (office work)
while seated. During non-working hours, he goes for a morning
jogging (7.2 km/hr) for one hour and he rides bicycle in the
afternoon (at rate of 16km/hr) for 2 hours and the 7 remaining
hours he rests at home watching TV and reading books. His digestive
metabolism is assumed to be 10 percent of the total of his basal
and activity metabolic rates over the 24-hour period of the
day.
