online Question 3 Researchers wanted to determine the effectiveness of combined statin and fenofibrate treatment versus statin alone to reduce risk of transient ischaemic attach (TIA) in people with metabolic syndrome. Participants in the study comprised 2,977 adults with metabolic syndrome: 216 received combined treatment (statin and fenofibrate) versus 2,761 received statin only. In the 60 months of follow-up, 30 in the combined treatment group experienced a TIA compared to 112 in the statin only group. a) Construct a contingency table to present the above data. b) Conduct an appropriate hypothesis test to determine if there is an association between different treatment and the occurrence of TIA. Specify the assumptions for the test you choose and confirm whether they are met or not. Make sure you show all the steps in your working. Question 4 Social prescribing is used to improve health and wellbeing in the public. However, its impact on increasing exercise levels is under debate. Consequently, researchers designed a study to assess exercise levels in a cohort of people who had received a social prescription. Twenty-three consecutive people were included in the cohort study. At baseline the mean duration of exercise undertaken in a week was 65 minutes and at the time of follow-up three later, this had increased to 73 minutes. The increase in exercise was plausibly normally distributed, and the sample standard deviation of the increase was 15 minutes. a) Which hypothesis test should be conducted to determine if the mean increase in exercise duration over the course of the study is significant or not? Explain the reasons of choice. b) Conduct the hypothesis test you chose for a) above. Make sure you show all the steps in your working.
