Analyse the Paper chromatography results below which show the mobility of standard sugars and an unknown sugar (method used was as described in Practical 2, FPG Practical Manual). Identify the unknown sugar by comparing the mobility of the unknown sugar to the standard sugars, and then select the most appropriate response.

A-The Unknown sugar is Maltose, as disaccharides interact with the stationary phase strongly and Maltose is the only disaccharide shown.B-The Unknown sugar is Fructose, as this sugar had the strongest interaction with the mobile phase.C-The Unknown sugar is Maltose, but the results are invalid because the solvent front moved further than the line of the sugars.D-The Unknown sugar is Maltose, as the retention factor of the unknown would be the same as the retention factor of the Maltose standard.E-The Unknown sugar is Maltose, but the results are invalid because the standard sugars were not applied on a straight line of application.
