dentist with a very tender tooth and a swollen jaw. They are also
feeling quite unwell- they have a fever that comes and goes and the
lymph nodes in their neck are very swollen, making swallowing
painful. Blood tests reveal they have elevated IgG levels and
evidence of C3a in circulation.
Diagnosis: The patient is diagnosed with
periapical abscess (a bacterial infection at the root of their
tooth), and they are treated by draining the abscess, antibiotics,
and a root canal.
