Patient History: A person has attended their GP
with a range of symptoms that have been progressively getting
worse. They have some asthma-like respiratory symptoms and severe
and persistent eczema that gets worse after humid weather. The GP
orders a range of tests to determine if this is an allergic
response, including specific IgE ELISAs for several known
house-dust mite allergens.
Diagnosis: The person is diagnosed with a
severe house dust-mite allergy, with high reactivity to the Derp7
allergen. They are treated with antihistamines and corticosteroids
initially, but they also decide to undergo desensitisation
therapy.
