a) Sketch the spring and neap tidal range as a function
of time for a 24 hr period.
b) A technology under consideration at the
proposed location, is the Marine Current Turbine, a tidal
stream device which has 2 turbines each of radius 12m.
Estimate the energy generation potential of the site, assuming
a coefficient of performance Cp of 0.4, and density of
water ρ of 1000kg/m3 and that this device works all year
round.
c) Alternatively, the site could be the location for a
tidal barrage. Approximating the area behind the barrage as
a triangle, what is the average power output during a
spring tide?
d) Aside from the power/energy output, describe
two advantages that the tidal barrage investment might
have compared to the tidal stream option.
