Pulsars lose rotational energy through magnetic dipole radiation according to Ėrad 2 Hom²w¹ sin²0 3c³4T where m is the magnitude of the magnetic dipole moment, w is the angular frequency, po is the permeability of free space and is the angle between the axis of rotation and the magnetic field. A pulsar of 9.0 km radius and mass of 2.0 Mo has a spin period of 200 ms and is seen to reduce in period by 5.0 ns per year. It has a surface magnetic field strength of 5.0 × 107 T. Assuming that the rotational energy lost by the pulsar is all converted into magnetic dipole radiation, calculate for this pulsar. (Assume Ho = 4 x 10-7 T m A-¹.)
