This writing prompt relates to the following course-level
outcome:
3. Apply small group communication skills including problem
solving, group roles, leadership styles, and cohesiveness.
Analyze a group from the movie Moneyball. Generally, Moneyball
is about a new owner for a professional baseball team who is trying
a nontraditional approach to build the members of the team. He is
relying heavily on a young expert in statistics. In the clip you
will see the previous recruiters talking through choices as they
make hiring decisions. The recruiters are just first being
introduced to the new owner's young statistics person. Study the
interaciton among the group members. Reflect on the readings from
small group communicaiton and leadership. Use course concepts to
explain what is happening in the interaction.
