When a building is constructed at -10.0°C, a steel beam (cross
sectional area 0.45 cm2) is put in place with its ends cemented in
pillars. If the seated ends cannot move, what will be the
compressional force in the beam when the temperature is 25°C?
Young's Modulus for steel = 2.0×1011 Nm-2
Linear coefficient of thermal expansion for steel = 1.2×105
(C°)-1
