While in the inn The Prancing Pony in Bree, Frodo loses his grip on the Ring. Frodo runs to catch it at a velocity of 10 m/s. He catches the Ring at the top of its arc, when the velocity is a purely horizontal 2.8 m/s. Both Frodo and the Ring are moving in the same direction. Frodo has a mass of 26.6 kg and the Ring has an eerily heavy mass of 6.4 kg. Even though Frodo becomes invisible, you are able to find him because you know his velocity after this "collision." What is the post-collision velocity (in meters/second) of Frodo with the Ring?

This is the same situation as above: Frodo just lost and re-caught the Ring in The Prancing Pony. Unfortunately, due to magic (?) - actually Canvas limitations - all of the values have changed. Sorry. Now Frodo has a mass of 46.3 and a velocity of 8.5 m/s before the collision. The Ring has a mass of 13.6 kg (yes, it's really heavy) and a velocity of 1.7 m/s before the collision. The question now is: How much kinetic energy (in Joules) was lost during the collision?
