A starch heater is used to heat a solution of starch in a paper mill. The temperature is to be kept at 70°C while the inlet temperature is 35°C. 1. If the time constant of the heater is 12 min and the process gain is 1, determine the transfer function for the heating process, with respect to change in load (inlet temperature). 2. An electrical heater is being used in this case. It was determined that 5.0 kW of energy input are necessary to change the outlet temperature by 1°C. Determine the transfer function with respect to change in heater input (kW). 3. A thermocouple with a time constant of 0.5 min and a gain of 1 is being used for measurements (the thermocouple is installed inside the tank). a. For step change of the temperature of the input flow to 45°C, determine and graph the variation of the temperature in the tank and the readings of the thermometer. Place both curves on one graph (Matlab). b. Determine the temperature difference between the temperature in the tank and the readings of the thermometer at time moment 10 min after the change of input temperature.
