A 10 m thick layer of clay lies on top of a hard rock substrate (assumed to be deformable and impermeable), on which a 5-meter-high fill is intended to be placed. Subsequently, an infrastructure that can support a maximum of a 5 cm settlement will be built on said filling. Complete the following: a) Determine the settlement that will be produced when placing the filling. b) Assuming that the construction of the fill is instantaneous, determine the time that must elapse to proceed with the construction of the infrastructure in question. Considering the time obtained, would you propose any measure to speed up the consolidation settlement? What measure(s) would you propose? Assume oedometric conditions, the water table at the surface and non-deformability of the rock substrate. Data of the clay: mv = 5 x 10 m²/kN;c, = 10 m²/year;= 21 kN/m². Soil surface Water level Clay 10 m Impermeable rock a) Settlement produced = 52.5 cm Tabulate part b.
