An open belt drive delivers 20 hp when the drive pulley, 12 in. in diameter, rotates at 1750 rpm. The strap is 3/8" by 6" in section and weighs 0.035 lb/in. The driven pulley is 48" in diameter and its contact angle is 200. What is the maximum stress produced in the belt, assuming the coefficient of friction is 0.3 for both pulleys.
