Question 2 [11 marks] A sheet metal is to be drawn into a beverage can with an inner diameter of 50 mm and height 70 mm. The metal has a modulus of elasticity of 209 GPa, yield strength of 180 MPa and tensile strength of 360 MPa. Determine (a) the blank size if the drawing ratio (DR) given as 1.7 (3 marks) (3 marks) (b) the sheet metal thickness if the wrinkling effect is equivalent to 1.7% (c) the force for the deep drawing process {Hint: F= Dt(TS)(DR-0.7)} (3 marks) (d) if the drawing ratio (DR) increases to 2.0, what will happen to the sheet metal? (2 marks)
