A uniform plane wave with E=E: propagates in vacuum in the -y direction. Assume that E is sinusoidal with a frequency 65 MHz and has a magnitude Eo of 3.5 x 10³ V/m. It has a maximum value at t= 0 and y = 0 (m). (a). Write an instantaneous expression for E (using either sine or cosine function) for any 1 and y. [2] (b). Calculate VxE. [4] (c). Write the instantaneous expression for H using the result in (b) and the differential form of Faraday's Law. [4] (d). Write the instantaneous expression for H using the characteristic impedance of free space, Zo. How does this result compare to your result in (c)? [2] (e). Calculate the wavevector k (rads/m) and angular frequency (rads/s). [2] (f). Plot the E and H field waves in a xyz cartesian coordinate system, specifying the direction of propagation k and locations for maximum for E and H. Plot at least one wavelength. [4] (g). How would you modify the E field so that you could change this linearly polarised uniform plane wave to an elliptically polarised wave? [2]
