You have been asked to provide an overview of the benefits of using FACTS to the Evergreen Power Grid company. How would you summarise the use of FACTS to this company. [5 Marks] b) A concern of the Evergreen Power Grid is the amount of active power that can be transmitted through one of their transmission lines. Given that this particular transmission line links two AC voltage sources, explain how the active power flow in this line could be calculated. Further, how can the direction of power flow be determined, and what factor has the greatest effect on the amount of power flow possible? Use a circuit diagram and phasor diagram to aid your answer. [8 Marks] c) One of the FACTS devices that the Evergreen Power Grid has chosen to put in place is the Thyristor Switched Series Capacitor (TSSC), as shown below in Figure Q1.c). The TSSC is a series compensator.
