Choose one of the following information systems and learn more
about how it works. Next, identify the components of the system
that make up the six critical elements of an information system
(portrayed in Figure 2.3 of the book). List three or more specific
examples or components for each element of the system, unless there
are only one or two reasonable components that fit. (Notice that
there are some elements that have one example in the ATM example
below.)
Here are the options for information systems that you can use.
Choose one: Video game system, Your phoneSmart watch, Self-checkout
at a store, Distribution center robot
To help you understand the requirements, here is an example. If
an ATM (automated bank teller machine) was used as the information
system, I would list the following components:
Data: Debit card number and information, bank account
information, withdrawal amount
Hardware: The machine, the screen, the keypad, the card
reader
Software: The program installed on the machine that provides the
text, deciphers my card information, controls the component to
dispense the correct amount of cash
Media: The wireless network or wires that allow the machine to
communicate with the bank network. The screen that a person would
view when interacting with the ATM
Procedures: Prompts and instructions on the screen to walk the
person through the process; Written instructions on the outside of
the machine; Messages and warnings if amounts don’t work or if
there are errors
People: The person using the ATM
