In this experiment, we are using ethanol + TEOS to generate
opals. Use the mechanisms for base-catalyzed and
acid-catalyzed hydrolysis and condensation of
TEOS to explain why basic conditions produce branched polymers
whereas acidic conditions produce linear polymers. You must
use inductive effects to explain your
answer. draw mechanism if possible.
