The roof is supported by joists that rest on two girders. Each
joist can be considered to be simply supported, and the front
girder can be considered to be attached to the three columns by a
pin at A and rollers at B and C. Assume the roof will be made from
a mm-thick cinder concrete slab, and each joist has a weight of b
kN. The cinder concrete has a weight of 20 kN/m3 . According to the
standard, the roof will be subjected to a snow loading of 1.2 kN/m2
. The joists have a length of 8 m each. The variables a and b
depend on your student number. Note that all the loads are
transferred to the girder via the joists, see the figures below.
Using both the general and the simplified Slope Deflection Method
(show them separately) and assuming the joist loads to be uniformly
distributed on each girder, draw the shear force and bending moment
diagrams for the girder. There are no support settlements.
Use x= 20 to get the value of a and b
