2. Temperature Sensor using Diode:
The temperature-dependent IV characteristics of a diode can be used
for temperature sensing. Consider the following circuit. Vin is set
at -5 Volt. From KVL at the inverting input terminal of the Op Amp
and by using the diode equation for current through the
diode, find an expression for Vout. In finding out the expression
of Vout in terms of T, you must explore how Is depends on T. hint:
the circuit is basically a current source forcing a fixed amount of
current to flow through the diode. When temperature changes, Is
will change. This will mean that Subscript[V, d] (which is Vo) will
change and this is measurable.
You should consider 2 cases: Long base diode, and short base
diode.
