E-Commerce: Facebook Dilemma: Case Study Despite having a lot
advantages as an organization, the company has encountered more
than its fair share of controversy along its path to success mostly
in handling and usage of the extensive information it collects from
its users. Though the users contribute most of their information.
Facebook willingly disregards the privacy and user controls of the
information granted to it. Facebook’s dilemma is finding a way to
turn into profit and continue to increase revenues using the
information its users voluntarily provide without violating the
privacy of the users. Its attempts to do so have not been
successful. Traffic continues to rise at a healthy rate and the
company sales went up in 2007, but the company continues to spend
more money than it earns. Facebook needs to innovate and find new
ways to grow revenue that do not eliminate the very users that the
company is depending on to spur its growth. The launch of the
company’s Beacon advertising services was an example of facebook
grossly miscalculating the privacy demands of its users. The
problem with the service is that it shared information about users
that they had not agreed to share.
