Analysis and Conclusions Complete the Analysis and Conclusions section for this experiment either on your Report Sheet or in your lab report as directed by your teacher. Show a sample calculation for analysis Questions 1-5 and record the results for each of your reactions in a Summary Table. 1. Determine the change in temperature for the reaction. 2. Determine the number of moles of sodium hydroxide used in the reaction 3. Determine the heat absorbed by the solution, which raises its temperature. 4. Determine the total heat released by the reaction. 5. Determine the heat evolved per mole of NaOH for the reaction. 6. Calculate the sum of AH, and AH,. Find the difference between that sum and AH, 7. Calculate the percent difference between (AH, + AH₁) and AH,, using the following formula: % difference - (AH,+AH₂)-AH₂ (100%) AH₂ 8. Refer to the net ionic equations that you wrote in the Prelaboratory Assignment. Now, using Hess's Law, add the first and third equations together. Cancel any reaction species which appear on both sides of the equation. Compare the sum of those two equations to the second equation. 9. In Process 1, AH, represents the heat evolved as solid NaOH dissolves. Look at the net ionic equations for the second and third reactions. In a few words, make similar statements about what each of the heats of reactions represents. 10. Suppose you had used 8.00 g of NaOH in Reaction 1. How would this have affected the change in temperature? Predict the heat that would have been evolved in the reaction. What effect would increasing the mass of NaOH used have had on your calculation of AH,? Explain. sta World of Chemistry 144 Copyright Houghton Mifflin Company All rights reserved
