2. A linkage to an aircraft landing gear is shown. • The 40-kN force acting on the wheel has a line of action acting 15° from a vertical reference line, as shown, and that intersects point D, as shown. • Each pin has a diameter of 25 mm, and is in single shear. • Strut BC has a width of 38 mm (shown) and a thickness (into the page) of 12 mm. • Member ACD has a width of 35 mm and a thickness (into the page) of 10 mm. a. Determine the normal stress on by the points on a cross- section located halfway between B and C (in strut BC). b. Does every cross-section in strut BC feel the same normal stress? Why or why not? 40 KN c. Determine the average shear stress in pins A, B, and C. d. Determine the bearing stress between pin A and member ACD. e. If the plate that member ACD is connected to at pin A is 15 mm thick (into the page), determine the bearing stress between pin A and that plate. 0.1 m 0.4 m 15⁰ A B 38 mm 0.4 m 0.4 m
