2. (a) The site for a proposed 5-storey development is marked on drawing D0.012, showing the outline of the proposed development (in red colour), the site available for the construction (enclosed in the green dotted line), roads and adjoining structures. Mark the positions of the site entrance and egress, welfare facilities, site offices, crane, stores as well as vehicular and operative circulation routes on drawing number D0.013, and in no more than 200 words, provide justification for the location of each of the above facilities. [12 marks] (b) The proposed 5-storey development above includes a 7.0 m underground car park. The soil investigations reveal a predominantly fine sandy soil strata with moderate permeability (approximately, K=10-4m/s) but the groundwater table is 5.0 m from the surface. In no more than 100 words, recommend a dewatering strategy for this scheme and explain the operating principles of your recommended solution. You may consult Figure 1 in making your recommendation. [6 marks] (c) A reinforced concrete raft foundation is to be constructed at the basement level of the proposed development to support the car park. With the aid of sketches, describe how this will be carried out, taking into account the dewatering technique in (b), excavation and installation of the foundation and identify four main items to be included in the construction stage risk register.
