Figure 2 below presents the set of stairs with quarter landings forming part of new hotel in Johannesburg suburb. 25 mm clay floor tiles with screed will be used as finishes on the stairs. The stairway is 1.4 m wide, consisting of 250 mm treads and 200 mm risers. The landings and the waist have the same thickness of 175 mm. The total rise is 1.2 m and use concrete class 25 with mild exposure conditions. Assume Y12 main bars, Fcu = 25 MPa, Fy = 450 MPa and cover (c) = 16 mm and the deflection is ok (Thus no need to check).
