A1 [4 Marks] GLARE is a "Glass-Reinforced" fiber metal laminate, composed of thin layers of metal, usually aluminium interspersed with layers of unidirectional glass-fiber reinforced epoxy (GF/EP), which has been used for manufacturing of the fuselage of modern aircrafts. The composite layer contains 68% of glass fiber and 32 vol% of epoxy. 1) For a GLARE of three layers of aluminium and two layer of GF/EP when all layers in the laminate have the same thickness, estimate the modulus elasticity of the GLARE in the direction 1 shown in the figure 2) Estimate the modulus of elasticity unidirectional GF/EP composite with (68% of glass fiber) in fibre direction, and that in a perpendicular fiber orientation. The elastic moduli of aluminium, glass fiber and epoxy are 70 GPa, 80 GPa and 3 GPa, respectively. Glass Laminate Aluminum Reinforced Epoxy 1 GLARE panel production: Aluminum Prepreg GLARE consists of: GLARE panel for the Airbus A380. 1. Pretreated aluminum sheets 2. Pre-impregnated fibers (prepreg)
