(c) The presence of chromium (Cr) in steels at relatively high
concentrations (e.g. >10 % Cr, by weight) is known to improve
oxidation resistance, whilst low concentrations of Cr can have a
negative effect on oxidation resistance in nickel (Ni) alloys.
Describe the physical mechanisms in each case, and illustrate
schematically (note, the relevant valencies of chromium and nickel
are Cr3+ and Ni2+)
