Question 3 A cylinder with outside diameter 340 mm and inside diameter 180 mm, is internally pressurised to 90 MPa. Determine the following: a) The radial stress at the internal radius of the cylinder and the external radius of the cylinder. (2 marks) b) Using Lame's theory, determine the circumferential stress at the internal radius of the cylinder and at the external radius of the cylinder. (8 marks) c) If the external radius was reduced to 320mm, what would be the resultant change (if any) to the answers in a) and b)? (10 marks)
