A certain dielectric-slab waveguide (where & =9&, and = μ) has its boundaries with air at x = ±1 mm. The electric field inside is given by E= â, 10cos (7006x) e 7006 mV/m. (a) What is the guided wavelength in milli-meters and what is the wave frequency? (b) Identify the propagating mode (i.e., specify whether it is a TE or TM looking in the guiding direction, and find the value of the mode index number, counting starts from 1 for TE and TM modes, respectively.) (c) Specify all other possible propagating modes at this frequency. Answers: (a) 2 = 0.897mm and 158GHz, (b)..., (c)....
