The forward path transfer function of a unity feedback servomechanism is K C(s)G(s)=- s(s+3)(s+9) (a) State the closed-loop characteristic equation for the servomechanism and de- termine its roots when K = 0. (b) Calculate the values of K required for the servomechanism to have a second- order dominated response with the following target performances: (i) on the verge of instability; (ii) critically damped; (iii) underdamped with undamped natural frequency of ₁ = 2 rad/s. (c) If friction were to increase within the servomechanism over its operating life, explain which of the two damping condition settings, (ii) critically damped or (iii) underdamped, would give the least deterioration in the output position-setting accuracy.
