PROJECT ASSIGNMENT:
1. Choose and Visit a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site
in the nation where you now are.
-- if you can visit more than one, that's better!
2. Imagine that you are working for the UNESCO World Cultural
Heritage Center,
and you are assigned by your boss to review that Site for its
periodic evaluation.
3. Do any website research that you need-to about that
Site, so that you understand it
(better if you do this before visiting).
4. At the site, take notes and photos, including
selfies (so I know you were there).
5. Write a 3 or-so page report to your Boss. No photos
in the paper!
6. Your report should explain the Values by which this site
became a UNESCO World
Cultural Heritage Site (according to the criteria we learned), and
then evaluate whether
those Values have been maintained properly. Investigate the
history and flow of domestic
& international Tourism to that site (until 2019), the
refurbishment, repairs & maintenance;
and the current policies to protect and preserve it.
From a Cultural Tourism Management
point-of-view, tell what you found that was good, right, fun,
exciting, interesting, pleasant;
and, what was bad, wrong, not interesting or unpleasant.
Would you recommend it for its Host Nation further promote it for
more international
tourists to visit? Why or why not? Pay
special attention to the "globalization" factors
-- use of languages and such etc -- are they adequate or not?
What do you recommend
that they change in the operation of this Site, in the
future?
7. If you cannot visit a Cultural or Mixed Site, you may
visit a UNESCO World Natural Heritage
Site. If you cannot visit either, let me know, and you could
visit & report-on some local site
that maybe COULD someday be inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural
Heritage Site!
