Faculty Help/ Student Help These are the seven Sedimentary rocks that we will be studying in this lab. The first parameter to understand is the grain size as this texture will be useful in naming certain rocks. Determine if the grain size is either visible but smaller than 2mm, visible, and larger than 2mm or invisible, *Please note that you are not measuring the width of the entire sample, but rather the grains that make up the sample Rock F (note the leaf fossil does not count as a grain) Choose... These are the first four Sedimentary rocks from the previous questions and these rocks are all clastic (meaning they formed as a result of weathered and transported particles that became lithified 'stuck together). For clastic rocks a second textural parameter, the rounding, can be considered. For each of these four rocks determine if the rock has round grains, angular grains, or if the grains are not visible. These are the remaining three sedimentary rocks and these are chemical or biochemical sedimentary rocks (meaning they formed as a result of either precipitation of minerals out of seawater by chemical/biological processes or by the accumulation of plant material). For chemical and biochemical rocks the composition tends to be the most important parameter. For each of these three rocks, what is the composition? Rock J Choose... 수 Rock K Choose... Now that you have determined the texture and composition for the seven sedimentary rocks it is possible to name them. What is the name of these seven rocks? Rock F Rock G Rock H: Rock Rock J: Rock K: Rock L:
